While the content largely remains the same, practice problems in the back of the book do not match up to those of the Valid U.S. edition.

Not for beginners

Does a decent job at teaching the concepts, but there are a lot of errors in the code. Enough that if I want already familiar with SQL, I would've been completely lost in places. Even so, there were times I had to get help from the professor or from online forums to find what was wrong.

the book did really good job to make it easy for readers to understand

Raspberry is quite new, the book did really good job to make it easy for readers to understand. Also, the images contained in the book are helpful. I found this book to be a nice aid to getting started with the pi 3. I have worked with computers of many types for many years, but never with a Raspberry pi. This book contains good info that will be a help while programming my pi 3 for some exciting projects.

A very helpful guide for setting up a Raspberry Pi 3 system

Before I even ordered a Raspberry Pi 3 and a starter kit, I read about half a dozen books on the subject. This book was by far the most helpful. It has the information that a beginner needs without going overboard and trying to do too much. There are plenty of RPi 3 books that go into Python programming or complex interfacing of the RPi 3 with electronic devices or other advanced subjects, but Timothy Short's book shows a beginner exactly what they need to know to set up the Raspberry Pi 3. I followed the instructions, and the system worked perfectly the first time I turned it on.

Once you have your RPi 3 up and running, the book has a very helpful explanation of the GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) pins and how they're used to interface the RPi 3 with other electronics. There are instructions for building some simple projects.

Highly recommended reading if you're thinking about buying a Raspberry Pi 3.

had I known that (I didn't look) and looked inside at the large font and good amounts of white space

Not enough detail to be considered worthy of a pro. To me, "step by step" implies there would be detail in its pages. It's okay for a beginner but, for the money, it's no bargain. It's only 90 pages and, had I known that (I didn't look) and looked inside at the large font and good amounts of white space, I'd have realized that it was really only fitting for a beginner. Nothing is in-depth, there's no index, etc. So, bottom line, it's okay but, should only be about $5.00.

This book is just what VE has needed. It brings Value Engineering (VE)into the modern world and shows VE to be a system esential to today's business and social environment.
The book is in four sections. The first,"The World Around Us" discusses a number of management systems, cites their strengths and when they should be used in a project development cycle to get the most benefit from each system. One of the systems discussed is VE and the difference between VE and all other management systems, both old and new, is clearly indicted.
The "Economics Of Profit" discusses in detail four essential elewments, Cost, Function, Value and Quality and the need for an understanding of each and the relationship of each one to the other to achieve a successful profitable result from effort.
The third section"The Human Element", covers Communiction, Motivation, Teams and Teamwork and Creativity as essential elements for developing any project whether it is business or personal activities.
The fourth section alone is great. "The sum Of The Parts" puts all of the technical and psychological elements together in the VE system and illustrates the operation by meaans of a simple, actual example of a project from start to finish. the project is discussed in plain language that is readily understandable. In addition, there are eight varied examples of projects that show the potential scope for application of the system from products to business and government organizations to personal affairs. there is also an appendix with a myrid of useful information.

I believe the book causes you to look at yourself more than it describes the differences between men and women. It breaks down the traditional view versus the egalitarian view of relationships between men and women in the church. It also causes you to search for any selfishness within you that may be causing friction in your relationships.

Good wisdom for all relationships, not just marriages

Men and Women: Enjoying the Difference (1991/2013) by Larry Crabb sets out to explore gender differences, particularly within the marital relationship. Having said that, I believe that a substantial part of this book would be useful to anyone, married or not.

Men and Women is a practical exploration of the notion of relational sin, and particularly our tendency to be self-centered. Crabb argues that when things go wrong in relationships, the primary reason is that people are committed first of all to themselves. On page 23, he wrote "it is the act of putting ourselves at the center of the universe, where God belongs, that is unqualified sin." That thesis drives the remainder of the book.

Having done his homework, Crabb explores the two typical "camps" of understanding biblical marriage, what he terms the egalitarian and the traditionalist. He believes that problems ultimately emerge from both of these traditional understandings, on the one hand suffocating legalism and on the other self-expressing freedom. the problem with both of them is that they are self-, rather than other-, centered. About the Author
Cora Carroll Scanlon and Charles L. Scanlon, A.M., were two linguistic authors of the mid-twentieth century. Cora Carroll was employed with the Milwaukee State Teachers College, while Charles L. served Marquette University. They authored two introduction textbooks to Latin, entitled Latin Grammar for the Reading of the Missal and Breviary and Second Latin, both published in 1944 and 1948 by the B. Herder Book Company, respectively. The works were also printed by TAN in 1976.

Best intro for self-starters

If, like me, you want to teach yourself Latin so that you can read the Vulgate and the Breviary, then you have only two choices of introductory texts here at Amazon: Scanlon & Scanlon's "Latin Grammar" and John F. Collins "A Primer of Ecclesiastical Latin". Both texts are intended for classroom use.
Collins slowly introduces you to Latin grammar while building up your Latin vocabulary. Scanlon & Scanlon tend to push you through the grammar more quickly, relying on cognates early on to help you cope with the vocabulary. Scanlon & Scanlon supply accent marks in all their texts and vocabularies to show you which syllable to accent; this is very helpful if you are teaching yourself. Collins provides macrons to mark long vowels in his texts and vocabularies; these suffice to let you figure out for yourself where the accent is, and they help you appreciate the meters used in classical poetry. For those who care about such things, physically Collins is clearly superior, with larger pages and larger type and plentiful margins. Scanlon & Scanlon comes with a splendid vocabulary in the appendix, small but complete, for reading the Breviary, the Missal, and the Gospels.
My approach to teaching myself Latin is "Teach me the grammar, give me a dictionary, and let me at the text". So I much prefer Scanlon & Scanlon to Collins. If you want to take the grammar more slowly though, you'll probably prefer Collins.
Honorable mention goes to Gavin Betts who wrote an excellent textbook, "Latin: A Complete Course (Teach Yourself)", that is intended for self-teaching. Unfortunately, its emphasis is almost entirely classical. Still, Classical and Ecclesiastical Latin are similar enough that it makes a good supplement to either Scanlon & Scanlon or Collins.
If you choose Collins, once you start reading the Vulgate, you'll probably want Leo F. Stelten's "Dictionary of Ecclesiastical Latin". Neither the Cassel's nor Chambers-Murray nor even the Oxford Latin Dictionary is adequate, although Lewis and Short's is, if you can afford it.

Good Place to Start

This remarkable book is a good place to start for anyone trying to learn ecclesiastical Latin, especially those who are interested in understanding the Mass or the Divine Office. This is the first of a two book series written for seminarians and novices who may have had no previous knowledge of Latin and needed to learn it fairly quickly (the second book is called Second Latin).
This book won't make you an expert Latinist, but it is most useful for anyone who desires a reasonable understanding of the language, particularily if you are interested in understanding the Latin used in the liturgy. Readings from the Gospel of St. John are introduced in later lessons (the second book focuses more on the use of Latin in theology and cannon law). This first book does a decent job of covering Latin grammar completely; although, the explanations of grammatical constructs are a bit brief. It was written in 1944 and so presumes that the reader has had some exposure the the Latin Mass, but it won't be much of a hinderance if one hasn't had any exposure to the Latin Mass.
Overall, this is a wonderful introduction to the Latin used by the Church, and I heartily recommend it to anyone.

Glossary alone is worth the price

This book is excellent preparation for reading ecclesiastical Latin. For reading the Vulgate, the extensive vocabulary at the back makes it a handier reference than a standard Latin dictionary. The emphasis here is on reading: all exercises are Latin into English - none are English into Latin. It lacks diacritical marks, although it does mark the accented syllable. Readers seeking a primer to prepare them to read church Latin appear to have few choices, but this is a good one.
