The History behind the History

There are a number of books about the history of Walt Disney World and it's attractions. You can read these and find when Pirates of the Caribbean first went in , how long the ride is, what was Walt's involvement, how the attraction changed, etc. This nice little book by neophyte author Andrew Kiste covers all that- but more. See Andy (is it OK if I call you that Mr. Kiste?) is a History teacher, so not only do we get the history of the attraction or park, we get the history behind the history. So, for example, when Andy covers The Jungle Cruise we get the usual tidbit that Walt originally wanted it to have live animals (who'd be sleeping during the day), but also a little history of Colonial Africa, a mention of Heart of Darkness, African Queen and The African Lion- all sources for this wonderful attraction.

When A Historical Tour of Walt Disney World: Volume 1 ( and I am really looking forward to Volume 2!) covers Pirates of the Caribbean, is also mentions a few historical inaccuracies of that E Ticket ride. We also get the Crystal Palace, Main Street, the Enchanted Tiki Room, the Carousel of Progress, and Tomorrowland.

And so forth. Again, Bob McLain and his little independent Theme Park Press has brought a new author and a great book for Disney aficionados.

A great read for those sick of the same old recycled

A great read for those sick of the same old recycled, rehashed reviews of Disney World. Rather than being yet one more book detailing the history of the construction of the theme park, this book details the actual history that influenced imagineers as they designed the iconic attractions highlighted in the book (and yes, previous reviewer, it's imagineers). The book not only gave me a new perspective on various attractions but, better yet, it made the history behind them relevant and interesting. The author obviously loves Disney and loves history and combines the two into a fascinating (and very in-depth) study. I highly recommend this book, especially if you're a Disney fanatic hungry for something new.

Imagine a tour given by a history teacher

Instead of the typical 20-something tour guide, speaking from a pre-approved script, imagine a tour given by a history teacher. You learn the history that is included in the ride. You see the background that was included by the imagineers. You find the facts hidden in plain sight. As with some history lectures it can be slow in a few spots. But overall it is a very interesting read.

If you liked the first book, you'll love this one even more!

I loved the first book, Healing Ruby, and now just finished reading Breaking Matthew.
If you haven't read the first book, you should. It will help you understand the setting. Story starts 4 years after the first book. Both Matthew and Ruby a little more grown up.
I love this series. From the setting, characters, turn of events...there are so much going on.
I don't really give it all away, but if you think this book is all about Matthew from the title, don't worry, this book is still about Ruby, Asa and other characters from the first book along with Matthew. If you liked Matthew from the first book, you will like him even more in this book.
I can't wait to start on the next one now.

A Completely Different, Yet Very Great Sequel

I am rating Breaking Matthew five stars because it deserves it, and was a solid 5-star story. However, it feels unfair after rating the first book in the series, Healing Ruby, five stars as well. If Breaking Matthew is a five-star book, then Healing Ruby is a 10-star.

This book, although well-written, interesting, and fun, just couldn't really compare to its predecessor. I'd say it was more typical Christian romantic suspense, a genre I am very familiar with. I love the courtroom scenes, personally, and I really enjoyed having Matthew's perspective. I identify with Matthew more than I do Ruby, so hearing his perspective and passion and humanness was refreshing and fun.

It was good to see Ruby be humbled, matured, and tempered down yet keep her godly faith and integrity. I really appreciated her growth in this book and thought it was a good sequel in terms of character growth and story continuation.

The culmination of two characters' romance was anticlimactic though, which was disappointing. We had been 100% in the girl's POV in the first novel, listening to her heartache and angst, so to miss her reactions, thoughts, relief, and joy in response to her first confession of love and first kiss was disappointing and left me with more of a numb effect than anything.

The plot completely surprised me and did not go as planned one bit, and there was a nice twist.

It was definitely a page turner, like a reverse To Kill a Mockinbird, and kept me up to 4 AM! Although it was much more of an easy read than the first book, Healing Ruby, which left me emotionally raw, moved, and touched in ways that the sequel simply did not.

I really, really enjoyed this series! Sure hope another final one comes out soon. I had to have this second one after I read the first. Jennifer Westall has becomes one of my favorite authors.
I finished the second one in 1 day in this busy Christmas season. Just couldn't put it down.

Taemon and Amma set out for the Republik to rescue Taemon's father. They meet an unexpected friend, but must keep a secret from him. Taemon thought that taking away everyones' psi would make his city a better place, but the people haven't changed. And now a new danger looms.

Archon is the second book in the Psi Chronicles. There is a decidedly different feel to this book, maybe since so much of it is away from Deliverance and the journey to the Republik. Yet this is a well-paced adventure with plenty of suspense, intrigue, and drama. Fans of dystopic novels should definitely check these out. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in this stirring series.

A Wonderful Composition With Valuable Information!

Portrait Kerala by Aruna Nambiar is a wonderful composition which provided me every piece of information that I need to know about Kerala and I must say that this book made me enjoy my whole leisure time. I am really thankful to Saibal Das who has been very dedicated in providing clear, attractive and colorful pictures and this book flows with pictures along with its discussion under the topic. The book covers many aspects of Kerala such as its historical background, culture, geographical features and nature. This book can be considered as a supportive tourist guide as well as it includes weather conditions, monsoonal effects and tourist attractions in Kerala. The political state of this land is described in this book proving a informative approach to the day today life style in Kerala. This book mentions places with architectural importance, cultural pageants, festivals and faiths of people. Kerala comprises attractive arts-mainly dancing is covered in this book and I am really excited to see the things mentioned in this book with my own eyes. I am really planning to enjoy my next vacation in Kerala.

A nice overall view

This book is a nice 'overall' on Kerala- It balances a good amount of Kerala and the culture of its people, its history, and its geography.

This book includes pictures, which are a nice touch, that are of high quality and relevant to what's being discussed at the time they are introduced, rather than random pictures here and there. Anything from flowers on the side of the road, to the natives, to a friendly picture of a squirrel with his nut made the passing from section to section quite nice. The content itself was very well written and thorough- it left me with no unanswered questions and a better understanding of Kerala and it's culture.

All in all, this is a nice read- regardless of whether you read it because you want to travel there, you're researching it for a school project, or because you'd like to have something a little more interesting to talk about than what your baby ate today at the dinner table.

Insightful and written well

The book covers many aspects of the unique state of Kerala, touching upon the distinct beauty of the environment, the people that inhabit the land and their respective cultural customs including holidays, religions, art & architecture, and cuisines common to the land.
I found the rich history of Kerala to be especially interesting, as well as the geography, which from what I’ve gathered so far seems to be a big influence in the aforementioned. I must also note that the pictures in the book are wonderful and do the text much justice.

possibly the best run of a comic ive read in marvel, not named Daredevil...Thor unwittingly becoming humanity's enslaver, creating an all powerful global dictatorship, and how the world viewed him and his miracles during his path downward, is just so on point and pertinent to the things going on today, specifically with the horrors committed in religion's name...i STRONGLY suggest you get these 6 books and read them...i can read them over and over and over again, and in 20 years when they reboot the Marvel movies again, THIS should be what they do with THor and the AVengers/Marvel overall....simply FIVE STAR reading....
