The more orthodox choice

Professor Madden's approach to this topic is less controversial than Professor Ehrman's course, From Jesus to Constantine: A History of Early Christianity Part II. Some will choose one course over the other for that reason alone. Professor Madden approaches the topic objectively it seems despite his Catholic background while Professor Ehrman seems, at times, all too eager to lead us down his own former-Protestant-agnostic path. As for thoroughness in coverage of the topic, Professor Ehrman's 24 lectures may appear a better value than Professor Madden's 14. It may be that the best approach is both courses and balance your understanding from both perspectives. It depends a great deal on your comfort with critical thinking.
Having listened to both these courses on multiple occasions, I do lean toward Professor Madden and his more orthodox approach. But I still keep coming back to Professor Ehrman's work as having no real rivals for depth of coverage despite some of his questionable theories seeping through between the lines.

Excellent introduction

Excellent introduction to the topic. Very clear and straightforward. Lecturer is not the most dynamic speaker, but does a fine job getting points across. As the previous reviewer suggested, this has much less sense of the author pushing his own agenda than Bart Ehrman's. In this, I get the sense that I'm getting what the scholarly consensus is, not what one particular scholar's interpretation is.
